Adventures in Podcasting: Plaidcast Junior
This winter has both crawled and flown by depending on how I look at it. With all the mud, my riding time has been minimal but Goose is his hairy, happy self and he's been a mostly solid citizen on the rides we've been able to sneak in.
There's been a lot going on in life but not so much at the barn, so I'll take this opportunity to let everyone in on some exciting news (that you probably already know if we're friends on various social media): At the end of 2018, I started co-hosting Plaidcast Junior podcast!
As horse people, most of us have heard of The Plaid Horse magazine, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite reads. In the past year or so that I've been following them, their content seems to have branched out and I love reading their blog posts, articles, and their podcast, The Plaidcast, is now a staple to my weekly listening. Muddy horse and muddy fields? Let's put on the Plaidcast while I tame the mud monster.
My good friend, Jess Clawson, Director of Podcasting for The Plaid Horse, reached out to me earlier this fall about becoming involved with the Plaidcast Junior. Of course I jumped at the chance, and I'm so glad I get to co-host with Jess! It's such a fun opportunity to not only hang out with one of my best friends while we record, but to talk to so many incredible people. The Plaidcast Junior is geared more towards the junior rider but is relevant content for anyone with horses, and our latest episode is a true testament to that.
Dr. Mitchell Rode is a Virginia vet who also happens to take care of Jess's lovely herd. We were lucky that he agreed to join us for an episode to discuss vaccinations and deworming in horses - timely considering this spring snuck up on me and I had to organize Goose's spring healthcare!
Every time an episode comes out, I typically say something like "THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE EPISODE!" and that's totally true - I love every single episode we release. This one however, is so incredibly timely, informative, and we had so much fun learning from such a fantastic person. This one is absolutely my new favorite episode.
Chatting with Dr. Rode made me miss learning. That's not to say I don't learn something new every day, but I miss learning more about my favorite creatures (I have an Equine Science degree, after all), and getting updated information on deworming best practices was mind blowing. Guess what? Not every horse should be dewormed the same way, and even if other people in your barn don't want to get fecal egg counts done, you absolutely should for your own horse! Want more info? You'll have to listen in to find out!
These adventures in podcasting have opened me back up to a community I so love. The past few years with the move and with refocusing my career in a different industry has left me keeping horses on the back burner, not necessarily day to day with my relationship with Goose, but I've slipped in staying present in the community, furthering my education, and becoming more involved with fellow horse people I wasn't already friends with. The Plaidcast Junior is something I look forward to recording and to listening to, as well as tuning in the Plaidcast's weekly episodes.
Episodes for the Plaidcast Junior are released on the 5th and 20th of every month, so don't forget to tune in to hear me and Jess talk about anything from Pony Club to riding in Alaska, with everything in between. Here's my shameless plea to Like, Subscribe, and Share with your friends if you like what you hear! We have a blast creating these for our listeners, and we want to know what you want to listen to whether it's the Plaidcast or the Plaidcast Junior. If you have ideas, want to say hi, or have feedback, drop a comment! I'd love to hear what you think. We also have a Patreon account - check it out!
